In my previous post, I shared how recently it was time to shake things up. For a little while my steady routine went out the doors and we traveled all the way south to Portugal, I went on my very first art retreat with artists from all over the world, and we enjoyed the earliest spring/summer mood ever. After that we had a short stay in Belgium where I had some work meetups and family time.

During our trip, I kept sharing drawings from the 100 day project, but at a slower pace. I aimed for 3 drawings a week, so I could keep going but also focus on all the good things that come with exploring a new place, meeting new people and diving deep in colourful experiments during the art classes. Online, I saw that for many, the ‘official’ timing for the 100 day project is done, but I don’t mind being behind. This way I can enjoy my project a little longer, right? 🙂

If you saw the blog post I wrote right before leaving (which also has a video), you might have noticed that back then it was still wintery. Grasses were brown, I was still wearing warm layers, and some lakes still had pieces of ice floating around. By the time we got back, Sweden was celebrating spring- not that it has been very warm yet, but there is an explosion of greens and blossoms. Lupines are blooming, Buttercups, Lilacs everywhere. I’ve always called myself an autumn/winter person, but springtime in Sweden is stunning!

The seasons have changed and so have I- although not as drastically. By drawing dogs more or less every day, I am gaining confidence. I don’t feel as stressed when inking as I was in the beginning and my drawing has improved. I still battle nerves with every post as I’m always hoping that I’m not ridiculing or insulting any dog. Just like in my photography, I always try to capture the character of the dog. I love the goofy moments, the funny outtakes, the epic fails, costumes, sports,… but I also realise that I’m still learning and exploring. It was a choice to learn in public, post all my attempts and experiments for everyone to see, and while it’s not all flattering and perfect, I like how this journey has been inspiring others to pick up a pencil and give drawing a try.
