For being a night owl, I’m up terribly early these days. Sunrises are too early to catch, still, but I’m all for magical mornings.
Before the heat, before the harsh sunlight (although the sun rises quickly), and definitely before most people head out, that’s when we wander and swim.

We’ve been spotting beavers, foxes, and cranes.
Some ducks too.
And fish that quickly swim away when we get into the water.

The lakes warm up at turbo speed. Only last week, we still had ‘zebra water’, meaning a warm top layer but cold layers underneath (and when you swim through, you get warm and cold spots). This week, the water has been deliciously refreshing and inviting. No more getting out before you get cold, but only wishing you could swim all day ๐Ÿ™‚

We’re cherishing every moment together.

I didn’t consider myself a roses person, but I can’t stop looking for them every day. I never pick the flowers from my garden, I think they are at their best outside where the insects can enjoy them, and I can look at their beauty every time I walk by or look out of the window.

We all know that Mogwai loooooves swimming, but this week, both Oona and Lizzie went for it too. Oona has been fetching toys and having a blast, running, shaking it, and asking for more. It’s such a joy to watch. It doesn’t always last long, mostly until she considers it time for her breakfast- then she will jump in my car and wait until we leave ๐Ÿ™‚
Lizzie is a special case. She has skin like Chamois leather (rather useless in most seasons up north), she hates getting wet and will even avoid Oona and Lizzie when they are wet, that’s why she isn’t in the pictures. But believe it or not, she’s an incredible swimmer! She swims like a muskrat, fast and agile.
Earlier this week, with a lot of encouragement, she swam! It was mostly to get some cookies, but she did it anyway. Then the second time, it was when we were on a sup tour and she jumped on the paddleboard during our lunch break. The paddleboard was tied to a tree, so she couldn’t float that far, but since it was hot and the water was nice, we thought we could try encouraging her to jump off and swim back- and she did! For the 10 minutes that she was wet, she looked very dramatic, but she’ll get over it ๐Ÿ™‚
